Until now there has been no way to flash the Hitachi 79 drives without physically removing the flash ram off the drive and using a special programer to flash them, this is extreemly hard and for most people not even an option, but now with the 79 PassKey that is all behind us. The 79 Pass Key is a mod chip for the Hitachi 79FK & 79FL drives. Once installed it will allow you to put the Hitachi drive into Mode B so you are able to flash the drive just like other model 360 drives. We only sell the official 79 Pass Key v1.1 made my Maximus, so you can be sure when buying from us that you are getting the original Passkey. Maximus has also been able to reduce the wire count down to 9 wires on the v1.1 models, this makes installing just that little bit easier. To settle any rumours, they work 100% with both Hitachi 79FK & 79FL drives. For some reason there were some people saying they are not compatible with the 79FL drives, we just want to confirm that this is not the case. If you’re the owner of a Hitachi 0079 drive the Maximus 79 Pass Key is a must.
Please note that the FFC connector and cable are now included as part of the 79 Pass Key package, so you are able to choose installing the 79 Passkey with wires, or you can choose to install using the FFC connector and flat cable. Please remember that both methods of installation are not easy, as the points you need to solder to are extreemly fine, make sure you have a very very small tip and a good temperature controlled soldering iron for the job. Another thing to remember is to make sure you have the right motherboard with the right chipset, at this time the best boards to be using are the Nforce 3 or Nforce 4 boards. We have heard of people having problems trying to use the old Silicon 3112 controller cards and the SIS motherboards.
