Wasabi X360 Xbox 360 HDD Loader

The Wasabi X360 was the second Xbox 360 HDD loader to be announced, the Wasabi 360 Ultra has been produced to work with all the older Fat Xbox 360 consoles, the unit sits externally on top of the console pretty much the same as what the Blaster CK3 does, cables run out of the console to the unit sitting on top and the main board is also external to the console which is not a bad idea, we talk more about that throughout the product description below. We here at are pretty excited about the Wasabi X360 and have already had the privilege of playing around with the Slim model and itís a really good unit. Like the X360Key the Wasabi has a decent set of features and the price point is pretty close to that of its competitor, while there are some subtle differences it performs just as well as the competition and is a worthy unit to bare the Wasabi name. If you are looking for a HDD loader for you Fat Xbox 360 console the Wasabi 360 is defiantly worth taking a look at and we go into detail below more about its hardware and function, itís worth having a good read of this whole page to get a good understanding on how she works.

Team Wasabi have been around since the Wii days and for those that knew their Wii chips the Wasabi DX was one of the very best chips made for the Wii, even though it came in 3rd place in popularity to the DriveKey & Wode team Wasabi did a really good job and reviled DriveKey for performance and price. We have no doubt that Wasabi X360 Ultra is going to go along the same lines as their other products and will be an outstanding unit that will get long term support in regards to firmware updates and the likes. When buying the Wasabi 360 you can feel confident that you are buying a product that will be getting after sales support in the form of firmware updates and new features being added and the peace of mind that itís coming from a manufacture that has been in the industry for years and has a great track record with their products. The hardware build quality of their products have always been exceptional and we can count on our hands here how many faulty Wasabi DX chips we had which believe me is a feat in itself, we know the Wasabi X360 will follow the same great path as the former products and be top notch from build quality to features and continued support.

Now we get down to hardware, the Wasabi X360 installs on the top of the console, you then run cables from the inside of your console and out to the Wasabi 360 sitting on top. We kind of like this approach here at because it means there is no chip sitting inside the console that if not installed correctly could short out, not saying that having the main board inside the console is a bad thing, itís just the way Wasabi have done it with the X360 is very neat and leans towards having less installation problems for those not as experienced with installing devices like these. We also have to say our experience with the Slim versions hardware was great, so far not a single unit has been faulty and the production quality was top notch, we have no doubt the same can be said for the Wasabi 360. Something that also impressed us with Wasabi was the release of a full manual and install guide before their Slim model even shipped to resellers, the manual and install guide were very comprehensive and looked extremely professional, we have no doubt once the Wasabi X360 Ultra is released around the end of Oct the same thing will happen and they will have a comprehensive installation guide listed along with a detailed user manual.

One of the main selling points to the Wasabi X360 is its on screen menu interface for selecting and changing your titles, the competition had been using an external remote and this is what made Wasabi 360 slightly different, that is of course apart from the e-sata thing which we will talk about later in this page. With the Wasabi to select your titles can all be done on-screen and they even have a system in place for using multi-disc games where you can drop back to the main menu and change the disc easily to keep playing. Team Wasabi were the first to implement this and it was a very cool feature, all be it now the competition has just released a firmware update for their model to include the same itís good to know that Team Wasabi are able to come up with cool and original features and just gives us confidence the team knows what they are doing and feel more confident about their ability to add cool new features to the product over time which they have indicated they will be doing.

Now onto the most significant difference between the Wasabi X360 and other Xbox 360 loaders on the marker, they have gone for an e-sata interface over the standard USB which we here at found interesting, e-sata is short for external SATA and is commonly found on newer PCís on the back to connect external sata drives, the main benefit of e-sata is shear speed, itís capable of loading 3x or 4x faster than USB and team Wasabi must have gone this route because they saw benefits to the faster loading times. While the speed is great e-sata drives are usually found by buying a 3.5Ē self powered external hard drive enclosure and then putting a 3.5Ē drive inside the enclosure which has e-sata on the back and then connecting to the Wasabi X360. Now one bit of good news for those that really only want to use USB is the team has announced they will also start to sell separately a special dongle add-on that will convert e-sata to USB, this means that you will be able to then use USB storage media with the Wasabi 360 as well as e-sata, so in the end the fact the team went with e-sata as the primary interface is not really a bad thing and gives customers the option of using the blistering quick e-sata or they can buy the add-on dongle which by the sounds of it is going to be really cheap and then have the option of using USB as well.

Now possibly the most important information for a perspective buyer of any HDD or USB loader for the Xbox 360 is that all the units require that you extract the drive key out of the DVD drive in your console for the Wasabi 360 to use to emulate your drive correctly. To be able to do this you require special flashing tools to be able to extract the key from the drive, for the fat consoles it depends on what drive type you have as to which tools you will need, for all drives you will need the Xecuter X360USB Pro and something to power the drive such as the Xecuter CK3 Lite and for those that have the Lite-On drives you will also require the Xecuter Probe v3 to extract the key. The good thing about Xecuter is they have guides for extracting the keys for all drive types and make the whole process just that much easier. The key extraction only needs to be done once when you are installing the unit and you wonít need to do it again. Now for those that donít want to buy all these other flashing tools for AU customers we have the option to post your console to us to install the Wasabi X360 for you, this will save on having to buy the extra flashing tools. Also a lot of people will have most of these tools if they had been flashing their drives before with custom firmware, but we just thought we should post up this explanation for new perspective customers new to the whole HDD Loader / drive flashing business.

So there you have it, should be plenty of info on this great new product, the Wasabi X360 release date is still set for around the end of Oct and we have now started taking pre-orders for this exciting device.
