The Wii-Clip v3 is clip used with the WiiKey chip so you do not have to solder the chip on to your Wii drive, you just need to solder the chip to this clip and this is all the soldering that needs to be done. The WiiKey is already a fairly easy chip to install if you have some soldering experience, and this latest WiiClip v3 has just made the job easier again. The only part you will need to solder when using this clip is the WiiKey itself to the Wii-Clip v3, you will not have to touch your Wii drive with a soldering iron, which will reduce the chances of damaging your Wii console dramatically. If you are not confidant in soldering the WiiKey to your Wii drive, but think you could manage to solder it onto the Wii-Clip, the Wii-Clip v3 will be your answer, for those not so confidant in soldering at all, maybe you should check our Wii chip section, as we sell a Wii-Clip v3 with the WiiKey already soldered on for you.
Please note that the WiiClip v3 is not compatible with D2B consoles with the legs cut off the controller IC, even though the WiiKey will work with these drives, the Wii-Clip cannot function as the legs on the controller are not present and thus the clip can not make connection to these vital points to function. Before you order you should check your Wii’s serial number on the serial number checker page below, if the page says there is even a slight chance that it’s a D2B console with the legs cut off, you should first get a Tri-Wing screwdriver and open the Wii to be 100% sure the legs are not cut on the controller IC. D2B models with the legs not cut are fine to use with this clip.
