The Xecuter CK3 Mini has
finally been released and is the long awaited replacement to the CK3 Lite which
has been extremely popular with those doing their own drives and don’t require
the extra functions of the CK3i. If you are after a low cost yet quality
solution to power your Xbox 360 DVD drives for flashing or repair services than
the CK3 Mini is a really good option. There have been a few exciting changes to
the design of the CK3 Mini compared to its predecessor the CK3 Lite and we go
into detail some more about those changes below, but like we said above if you
are looking for a lower cost solution to the CK3i and don’t require the extra
functions the CK3i has such as the automation features in Jungle Flasher or the
Mode B support for the old Hitachi drives which most don’t these day’s then the
CK3 Mini is going to be an attractive looking kit. They come with the Self-Resetting PPTC Fuses to prevent damage from power spikes, of course a power button & LED, eject button and now a really nice see through case to protect the PCB from the elements. The case is something that was not found on the CK3 Lite and is a welcomed addition to the CK3 Mini.
The Xecuter CK3 Mini is as
the name describes very small. They have removed the Molex power connector on
the unit to save size and it now comes with a 4-pin connector for power which is
the same used on 3.5” floppy drives in PC’s. Now all PC power supplies will have
these power connectors in them but Xecuter didn’t want to leave anything to
chance and for those that maybe are already using all their 4-pin connectors
they have included a small converter cable that will convert the 4-pin to Molex
so people can still continue to use Molex to power the CK3 Mini if they wish
to.
Now there has been an
exciting addition to the Xecuter CK3 Mini which is the ability to power your
drives from USB, yes that’s right you can now use the CK3 Mini in conjunction
with the x360usb pro to flash your drives on the go using a Laptop and getting
5v power from USB. This has been achieved by the inclusion of a special adapter
cable that converts the 4-pin power plug on the device to USB for taking 5v
power from any USB port. This is going to be terrific for people that are on the
go and do mobile drive flashing or repairs and wish to use a laptop setup. Note
with this method it will only power the board on the drive and lacks the 12v to
give you the eject function, but the eject function is not used in most cases
and is really only required for some drive recovery’s.
